East Greenland and Iceland Adventure

A wonderful winter tour to two places of great contrast - the rugged drama of East Greenland where ancient traditions live on, and the natural wonders and vibrant city life of South Iceland.

East Greenland
Experience a culture and landscape that is truly unique and rarely encountered.  Kulusuk is a small hunting village on Greenland's incredibly remote east coast where traditional ways of life hold fast.  It is one of the few places in the world where the dog sled is still one of the main means of travel and is a beautiful expression of man's adaption to this challenging environment.  Here you have the opportunity for a full-day journey by dog sled, with local mushers from the village who are still dependent on hunting and fishing.  All this amongst a dramatic land of jagged mountains, frozen fjords, icebergs and glaciers that flow down to the sea.

Northern Lights
With departures in February and March, this is also a great chance to see the Northern Lights.  They can be seen in Iceland, but the Kulusuk area seems to be particularly reliable.  Our guides report that they have seen them almost every night at this time of year, when the skies have been clear.

South Iceland
It is possible to extend your stay in Iceland, which would allow you to experience some of the real highlights and natural wonders of South Iceland:
- The National Park of Thingvellir, the site of one of the World's first parliaments and a masterpiece of nature with a beautiful lake and fascinating geology.  The rifts here mark where the continental plates of Europe & America meet.
- The majestic waterfall Gullfoss.
- The famous Geysir area with erupting hot springs.
- Reykjavik, the Capital of Iceland which is a blend of the past and the modern world. Here you will find all facilities of a modern city, and the warm friendliness of a small town.

Please enquire for details and costs for additional nights in Iceland.
