Uummannaq is situated on an island at the foot of the heart-shaped hill that has given the town its name. Uummannaq is located 600 kilometres north of the polar circle and is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in Greenland.

UM1: City Walk Uummannaq
We walk around a town dependent upon hunting and fishing. Dog sledges and sealskin drying outside the houses are common sights, and at the local market one can see the catch of the day. A visit to the museum with details of the famous mummies found nearby 30 years ago is included as well as lunch.

UM2: By Boat to the Mummies Grave and to a Small Settlement
We sail directly to Qilakitsok where you will find lots of ruins of Eskimo turf huts. Here the famous mummies were found 30 years ago (they are now in the National Museum in Nuuk). Then we proceed to Akutdleq, a place of outstanding geological interest, where we enjoy lunch before continuing to a small settlement. On the way back to Uummannaq we visit a bird cliff where thousands of gulls build their nests.

UM3: Hike to Santa Claus' Summer Cottage
We walk over a mountain with an impressive view over the ice-filled fjord to a mountain slope behind the Uummannaq mountain where Santa’s Summer Cottage can be seen – it is a replica constructed for a TV series in Denmark! A marvellous experience in the high arctic nature.
