Wild Spaces - boat supported walking in East Greenland

Day 1  Arrival in Greenland. A spectacular flight from Reykjavik over the Denmark Straits and the icebergs off Greenland's rugged coast.  Having landed on the gravel airstrip in Kulusuk, transfer to the village and settle into accommodation in a family home.  There will be time to explore the village and for short walks in the area.

Day 2  After breakfast we get packed and load up the boats ready to head into the fjordlands.  It wil take about 90 minutes to reach our first camp in Tuno, a stunning place at the head of a fjord and the bottom of a wild valley, surrounded by towering peaks.  This place is held in high regard by the Inuit as the place to come to catch salmon and trout.  Having established camp we'll enjoy a well prepared meal and maybe collect some mussels from ther shoreline.

Day 3  A day to explore the area on foot.  There are some beautiful walks to be had along the shore or up the valley, and it's a good opportunity to take in one's surroundings and appreciate the remoteness and beauty of this place.  Fishing may also be an option for those that wish to try their hand.

Day 4  In the morning our Inuit colleagues return with their boats and we load up, ready to set off for our next camp.  Heading northeast and rounding a corner we are faced with an Arctic masterpiece of power and beauty.  At the head of Sermiligaq Fjord no less than five glaciers pour down into the sea, calving icebergs into the water.  At the head of the fjord we establish camp on the moraines of one of the largest glaciers.  The contast with our last campsite is marked - this place is more rugged and imposing, but awe-inspiring in its unique beauty.

Day 5  Time to get to know this glacial landscape on foot.  The moraines are fascinating to explore, and a walk on the glacier may be possible depending on conditions.

Day 6  We're met by the boats in the morning, and take our camp down for the last time.  It's a couple of hours back to Kulusuk, so we may break the journey in Sermiligaq - another incredibly remote settlement.

Day 7  A day in the village for walks in the local area or just to relax.

Day 8  An early afternoon flight back to Reykjavik, arriving early evening.  Check into guesthouse accommodation for an overnight stop.  An evening trip to the Blue Lagoon is highly recommended (not included).  Individual departures the following day.

Please note that all of our itineraries may be subject to alterations or delay at short notice due to inclement weather conditions, sea ce conditions or other factors beyond our control.
