Scoresbysund in northeast Greenland is in the heart of what it known as the Arctic Riviera - a stunning and remote Arctic wilderness that is famed for its long periods of stable and settled weather. Home to an abundance of Arctic wildlife, Scoresbysund is also the largest fjord system in the World, and there's no better way to explore it in than on board a specially designed boat on our 10 day trip to the area.
Flying into the hunting settlement of Ittoqqortoormiit, there will be time to explore this remote village and meet the people that live here before embarking on our exploration of the fjords. We head west deep into the inner fjords amongst a real Arctic grandeur of towering cliffs and glaciers. Giant icebergs dot the fjords and getting close up to these is a humbling experience!
The western end of the fjord is dominated by the huge island of Milne Land. We spend 5 days circumnavigating the island though increasingly narrow and spectacular fjords, stopping each night to stay either under canvass or in one of the beautifully located huts that are found on the island. Each eveing there'll be time to explore the island - there are a great deal of ancient Inuit sites to discover and encounters with Musk Oxen, foxes and hares are highly likely. Out to sea we may be lucky enough to see whales, possibly even Narwhals.
This tour promises a real insight into northeast Greenland, its people, wildlife and extraordinary beauty.
