Friday Arrive at Keflavik International Airport, Iceland and transfer to guesthouse accommodation in central Reykjavik for an overnight stop. Time to explore the city, depending on when you arrive.
Saturday Fly Reykjavik to Constable Point, East Greenland. Flights are with Air Iceland. A spectacular flight over the icebergs of the Denmark Straits in a small Fokker 50 or Dash 8 aircraft, and great views of Greenland’s coast and the pack ice as we get closer. Landing on the gravel strip in amongst the mountains is quite an experience. At the airport you will transfer to the helicopter for a thrilling flight to the village of Ittoqqortoormiit where you will be met by our in-country team and taken to your accommodation. There will be time for a look around the village, and your guide will give you some briefings about the trip and information about the area.
Sunday Into the wilds. Get kitted up in the morning, and load the dog sleds ready to set off on our adventure. The route takes us first up a frozen river valley behind the village, and up onto the Hvidefjeld - a high glacier with incredible views across Scoresbysund and the edge of the sea ice. It is a spectacular place for our first camp.
Monday To the coast. Dropping down from the glacier we reach the outer coast, passing the huts at Kap Swainson on the way. Here we meet the ice edge, and the pace may slow down as we move along, keeping an eye out for wildlife. There is a fair chance of seeing Polar Bears in this area. We'll stop at the hot springs near Kap Tobin. These are the warmest hot springs in Greenland, and an unusual sight in this winter wonderland! There may also be time for a look around the tiny hunting village before heading to our next camp near the ice edge.
Tuesday Along the ice edge. Our sleds continue along the edge of the sea ice, taking regular breaks to look out for wildlife. Eventually, the sleds make a turn for home and we return to Ittoqqortoormiit. In the evening we are treated to a delicious dinner of traditional Greenlandic food and storytelling.
Wednesday Return to Iceland. Back on the helicopter in the morning for the flight back to Constable Point. Here we meet our flight back to Reykjavik where we arrive in the evening and return to our accommodation.
Thursday Depart for home. Transfer to Keflavik International Airport in time for departures for home country.
Please remember that, like all our itineraries, this is subject to change depending on local snow, ice and weather conditions that we encounter at the time. We will of course always try to follow the original programme as closely as possible.
