Accommodation

IN ICELAND
At the beginning and end of your trip, there will be overnight stops in Reykjavik, Iceland. During this time, we stay in a comfortable private guesthouse in the city centre. You will have the chance to explore this stylish city, and to visit some of the many attractions such as the incredible cathedral or to enjoy a swim in the geothermal spa at the Blue Lagoon.

IN KULUSUK, GREENLAND
Inuit HousesInuit families shall be our hosts as we spend time in Kulusuk. We will be guests in their homes and shall enjoy their quietly warm and thoughtful hospitality. The houses are modern and heated, but look out for the thick steel ropes passing over the roofs to anchors on the ground - designed quite literally to hold the wooden houses down during the worst of the winter storms. Painted in an array of bright colours, they stand out against the white backdrop as if beacons of warmth and shelter. Our time in their homes provides a fascinating and touching insight into Inuit family life - their hardiness and skill as hunters belies a tenderness in the family that is present in every generation.

FOR THE DOGSLED EXPEDITION
Karale Base CampDuring our two nights out with the dogs, we shall pitch camp in some stunning locations including the sites of long abandoned Inuit settlements. Tunu provides state-of-the-art tents capable of withstanding the worst of Greenlandic conditions, including a large heated basecamp tent in which we get together during the evenings. Don't forget to take a look outside at night though - the sight of the frozen coast and mountains lit by moonlight and the eerie Northern Lights will remain with you forever, especially when enjoyed with a glass of your favourite whisky or some warming mulled wine...
